Bird’s-eye view of Pedong on the backdrop of Sikkim hills.
Pedong means the sweet aroma that is liberated by burning the resin or spice producing plants in a religious ceremony.

Pedong is a small hill town under Kalimpong subdivision of Darjeeling district. It is situated at a distance of 21 KM. east from Kalimpong.
It is a treasure island, harbouring many evidences of important history, related to the ethnic and religious evolution of this area.

The ancient Silk route that connects Lhasa to India via the Jelep La pass traverses this quiet mountain village in India. Nathula is also quiet near. The route is Pedong, Rhenock, Kupup and Jelep La. The silk cultivation unit is still there with the ruins of the old set up.

Past evidences of war between the Lepcha and Bhutia mountain community and the Anglo Bhutan war of 1864 are scattered all around at the ruins of Damsang Forte and the Sangchen Monastery here.
For further detail and map click Pedong.

The habitation remains covered with misty clouds most of the time. The sun bestowed me with its illuminating rays on the village while I was at the view point and I activated my shutter.
