Photographer's Note

This is why I frequently go back to the eastern Himalayas for. You are guaranteed to such sceneries, washed by clouds, mist and fog, moist climate, intermittent rains and cold.

The Darjeeling district of West Bengal is the most accessible place for tourists, a night train's journey from Kolkata, locals prefer a weekend to visit these places. Polular for its majestic view of Kanchendzongha, Darjeeling also offers nature lovers a lot. It is a bird watchers' paradise. Also famous for its indigenous flora (like orchids) and fauna, it hosts numerous Wildlife Sanctuaries and National Parks.

The famous filmmaker Satyajit Ray (his 84th birth anniversary was celebrated yesterday) made a film on this theme, Kanchenjongha, where he depicted how magnificent the snow peak can be, despite being elusive. One has to be patient to have a good view, and luck does matter.

Personally, I am a drop dead mountain lover, and the moist cold eastern Himalays attract me most.

This shot was taken from the balcony of our room at the DGHC bunglow, just after sunset. It was darkening and the clouds came down to sweep over the nearby hill slopes. Another shot taken few minutes before, with some more light, in the WS.

A special shot for me, my 100th post from my country.
