Photographer's Note

I took this snap when I visited a Wedding Ceremony of my school friend...This picture is belongs to a step in Bengali Marriage ceremony which is called Sindoor (Vermilion) Daan...

Sindoor Daan and Ghomta - The Bride & Groom are seated at their respective places in chadnatolla the groom applies sindoor or vermilion (a symbol of marriage worn by Hindu women thereafter) on the bride's hair-parting. The bride then covers her head with a new sari offered by the groom as ghomta or veil.

Bengali wedding is an elaborate and long affair. The the wedding rituals spread for three days, which excludes certain engagement and post wedding rituals. The rituals involve not only the bride and the groom, but with them, a lot of other close relatives, who are the part of this event.
