Photographer's Note

We were waiting for over 3 hours for our car back to siliguri when a procession of women shouting slogans 'AYO AYO GORKHA LI' (roughly translated: a demand for separate Gorkhaland) marched past us...
They were around a hundred in numbers....mostly students..some were even homemakers....i asked one of them what will they do if the Indian government or West Bengal state government do not give in to their demand...the reply was prompt....'do you want bloodshed like the 80's again??'
With the flag held high, and the women brigade so strongly motivated, i feared the worst...this agitation turned movement will go a long way, and for the next few years (if the crisis is not resolved through dialogue) a strong anti-national undercurrent will be felt in Darjeeling, which may affect us, people who love to visit such a beautiful place....i say so because what they are up to is sheer madness, a recipe for disaster, and they will not bother whether their daily bread (read: tourism) gets affected....if you are thinking otherwise, i tell you i had a different experience, and i was proved wrong....
this may sound like a bloggish item....but this is sort of a reportage from ground zero....on THE account of a traveller who was harrased....
ps: i do not seek points on this...but would welcome comments and similar experiences from others...
