Photographer's Note

This is a picture of a tea garden in the hills of Darjeeling. I took this photo on our way to Tinchulay. This particular garden belongs to the Teesta Valley Tea Estate.

Tea is grown on the slopes of these hills with shady tress around. Moist hill slopes are kissed by clouds from time to time, is the ideal environment for growing good tea. Tea pickers can be seen plucking tea leaves. Darjeeling produces the finest quality of tea in India and this area is famous for this reason too, apart from offering the visitors a wonderful view of Mt. Kanchendzongha and the adjoining snow peaks.

Tea gardens resemble green velvet carpets on hill slopes and often used as a setting for movies. The guest houses of the tea estates are well furnished and used for holiday retreats.
