Scenes from a Fair - III

One more image of an elderly lady selling peacock plumes at the Book Fair.Peacock plumes or feathers are shed annually and the birds are not being killed for their feathers.They are used for decoration at home,as a bookmark,or bunched together to be used as a duster.It is being kept inside a book mostly as a symbol of romance.Lovers at times present each other peacock plume as a symbol of love and romance.

I can not imagine that I would decorate the house with these feathers. Peacocks are beautiful birds but when they are alive, the original scene

I love the idea of exchanging peacock feathers as a sign of love; they are such beautiful and impressive feathers.
I'm not sure that the lady is happy to be photographed but her expression has helped to set a mood!
Your photograph is very well composed, with a good sense of depth and reveals aspects of Indian life that are new to me.

She seems rather suspicious of the photographer this peacock feather seller. You have captured her in context leaning against the tree. The image is nicely exposed and has very good colours and sharpness. Interesting not as well.

Interesting candid of the peacock feather seller, in traditional garments, leaning against detailed palm tree in open market.
The peacock feather is a popular addition to costumes during Mardi Gras, celebrated in numerous U.S. cities.

Interesting insight in an indian custom of using peacock feathers as a sign of true love. The market scene is interesting as there is so much going on around the feather seller where she is the calming pool in the middle.

an interesting scene from the fair, an effective way to talk about the place peacock feathers have in folk tradition. The lady looks somehow worried and her display is quite discreet.
