Photographer's Note

Collection of fire-wood from the jungle is one of the primary chores of the tribals of Orissa. Men and women both go out to the jungle to collect fire-wood, many times risking their life from different animals. These are used as means of living either for cooking or selling in the local market and bartering for grains.

It was drizzling as we moved towards the jungle and the surrounding mountains and the jungle became darker and darker. And we saw these tribal women running towards home as their menfolk used cycles to ferry the day's collection.
