Photographer's Note

This is the view of the Man Mandir Palace from the east and south of the Hathia Paur Gate to the fort. From the 13th and 14th centuries, Gwalior had been ruled by the sultans in Delhi. In the chaos following on the death of the last sultan, a warrior of the martial Rajput clan of Tomar made himself ruler of Gwalior. The greatest of these rulers was Raja Man Singh Tomar. The Man Mandir Palace was built between 1486 - 1516 CE. It is a magnificent structure of towers and cupolas decorated with ceramic tiles in glistening yellow, blue and green colours.
