Photographer's Note

In Tbilisi there are two main avenues Rustaveli Avenue (named after Shota Rustaveli) in the citys new center on the right bank of the Kura River and Aghmashenebeli Avenue (named after Davit Aghmashenebeli) in the citys old center on the left bank of the river.

This picture was taken at the Aghmashenebeli Avenue, which not only has changed its name from Plekhanov Avenue, but also it is changing its look completely. Almost all buildings of this old and beautiful street were under reconstruction at the moment when I arrived there. Only these two buildings were completed.

At the left you see the former Railroaders Club built in 1938 1949 according to design made by the well-known Georgian architect Gavriil (Gabo) Ter-Mikelov (1874 1949). Recently the building has been used as a theater for young people. At the right there is a former theater, which now is turned into a musical-and-cultural center.
