Tbilisi - The Peace Bridge

There’s a chance that Craig might like this architecture …

The Peace Bridge, opened in 2010, is a bow-shaped pedestrian bridge that connects the Old Town at the west bank of the Mtkvari River with the Rike Park and the new district at the east bank.

The bridge is a design of the Italian architect Michele De Lucchi.
It has a curvy steel and glass canopy top and at night it is brightly illuminated. The bridge and the Rike Park are a pleasant area to stroll around in the late evening.

The construction of the bridge has been controversial. This because of its cost and its modern design nearby the old town of Tbilisi.
Sometimes I also put questions about the coexistence of historical monuments and new architecture but in this case I understand the function of the bridge as a symbol of the country’s transition from the past to a new chosen path for the future.
After all I think it's actually a very beautiful bridge.

In the distance you see the yellow dome of the Holy Trinity Cathedral of Tbilisi (center of the picture) and also the Presidential Palace (on the left side).
