Too many, Pingu. I am sad to see this picture. When I was in Shanghai in 1983, there was no McDonald's, only a very beautiful city built in the 1920's. And many old Chinese neighbourhoods. Now it is no different than every other big modern city in the world. Thank you for posting this so I can see what has happened in the past 20 years.

I'm sad like dawekato, I haven't been to China, but I'm afraid to go now, because it is going to look more like Chinatown than China!!!
"If you can't beat them, sell them something"
By the way, the photo is nice and colorful, and I counted 3 white M et 24 yellow one !

I'm just happy that my parents took us to the US in '83, that was my first cultural "shock". All the different cars, shops etc... Now with globalisation it is a pain. It will be all the same around the world. I was in Indonesia in 2000 and was glad that the family that I visited there took me also to rural areas as Jakarta also becomes a "World City". For the picture I would have liked it a little more to the right and up, so the M above is fully seen and a little more space for the M on the right.

Way too many.
When I was in Saigon couple of weeks ago, my local guide said "We currently only have KFC, we dont have McDonalds yet. We hope in couple of years we could have some of them here." My reaction was "Oh nooo!!!".
Unfortunately if you think from their perspective this is probably inevitable. It's probably more profitable to open up McDonalds chain than open up yet another noodle house.

I like the symbolism and the visual idea.
Well seen and captured. I would highlight the ”M” letters – posted a WS

I like this lovely colourful street scene and all the wonderful Chinese calligraphy. I remember trying to count the Ms when you first posted it, but I forgot to add a critique. Well framed.

What a shock! I also remember Shanghai from the 80's and didn't go back there since. The reality is pretty brutal like a slap in the face. I only recognize the wires of the tramways and a bit of a colonial building...The mix is amazing and the picture very well done as usual.

Well some of us get saddenned about getting "global" specially in old districts in Shanghai, its just that the government don't do anything to preserve such heritage, they think of modernization and capitalism...well gives employment to people though.
I see 28 "yellow-M" ..not sure if I see one inside the counter...
