Photographer's Note

A classic scene from anywhere in the Tibetan regions.

This woman is turning the prayer wheels, walking around the enclosed monastery. The wheels just have got to keep turning.

A combination of prayer and exercise.
A moment of introspection.
A ritual to break the day.

Xiahe is probably the best known Tibetan location outside the province of Tibet.

The town, which now compromises a Tibetan, a Han Chinese and a Hui part, is built around the enormous monastery of Labrang.

In this part of China, Xiahe has recently become a top destination both for tourists and pilgrims.
