Photographer's Note

First time we travelled in China was in 1998. Since then we've been back for four roundtrips: a big one of two months and a bit, and three trips of 5 to 6 weeks. China is a big country and a wonderful place for independent travellers. Yet, you do need time and a relaxed attitude.

Also in these 15 years we've seen China change A LOT. One of the biggest changes is the rise of (mainly Chinese) tourism. China is so big there are plenty of options for those who wish to escape the backpacker trails, but it's becoming increasingly difficult to escape Chinese tourists.

Still, because of the food, the people and the mere size of it,
China remains one of our favourite travel destinations.

This picture shows a small pavillion in the area around the Forbidden Palace. A close crop, very Chinese.

Shot against the light, colours boosted up, played with levels and contrasts.
