Photographer's Note

Yuanyang, the small town that is the most famous tourist destination in Yunnan for viewing the spectacular Hani (Akha) minority rice terraces, is spectacular in itself. Here is a shot during dawn, taken from between the bus station (in the 'lower' part of town, towards Nansha) and the main square (which forms the center of town), looking west.

Yuanyang is perched on top of a severe hill which drops away to the north, where the Red River (Hong He in Chinese Pinyin) runs eastward towards Vietnam. Down the hill closer to the river live the Dai minority, but the Hani like to stay in the mountains.

Proc: Resize, sharpen, fade sharpen (40% or so), expand canvas to add border.
