My Current Work Place

Today, a little bit about my work. The picture you are watching now shows two distinctive activities of the offshore oil and gas industry.

On the left hand side you can see a production platform with two cranes a flare boom and small work over rig.

On the other side is a drilling platform in the front with a big derrick and three legs. Behind you can a smaller platform with four legs which is, in this case, the power, mud tanks and accommodation module. This type of arrangement, the main drilling and a power module, is a quite old design of oil rigs still being used in the shallow waters of the Bay of Bohai in China.

So, I am currently working on the drilling unit. It does not have a helicopter deck and therefore all travel to and from the rig is made by boat. You also can see one boat behind the power module on the right hand side.

The view was taken 12 days ago when I arrived on the rig site. The weather was overcast with quite intense fog.

Enjoy your stay!!!
