Photographer's Note

I continue with my scans from a visit to Tibet in 1986.

This is from outside the Jokhang Temple in Lhasa, the holiest temple of Tibetan Buddhism, or Lamaism. The Jokhang is the natural centre of Lhasa, constantly visited by large numbers of pilgrims (unless the Chinese authorities decide to keep visitors away for "security" reasons). Especially in the evenings the Barkhor Square in front of the temple is where people come to mingle and watch other people, just like the main streets of any city in Mediterranean Europe are filled with families strolling back and forth in the evenings.

This picture was probably taken in the middle of the day. I will add a morning picture and one from an evening as workshops. They were all scanned from Kodachrome slides.
