Photographer's Note

Another dark picture of mine, taken in the Pelkor Chöde monastery of Gyantse.

A number of pilgrims were visiting the monastery together with us. And they walked from room to room, leaving a bit of yak-butter in the burning lights and touching walls and statues with their foreheads.

I watched doing their rituals and was charmed by the beautiful atmosphere created by the dark rooms and the yellow light and characteristic smell of the yak-butter lights.

This shot was taken handheld at 1600 ISO.
