Photographer's Note

Guide (贵德) is a small Tibetan town located south of Xining. The town proper, within 14th century earthen walls, is currently being redevelopped for tourism, but the area's main drawing card is an enormous praying wheel near the banks of the Yellow River.


China Praying Wheel, or Zhonghua Fuyunlun (中华福运轮), is an enormous Tibetan-style praying wheel, set within a newly constructed park on the banks of the Yellow River, just outside of town. The praying wheel is 26 meters high and is driven both by hydro-energy below and by devotees who turn the wheel as they walk around its base.
