Yuanyang vegetable market

Yuanyang is famous for cultivating terraced fields and Hani minority has created an environmental wonder in mountain area. Their culture is a terraced field agricultural civilization, which has a perfect agriculture system and an agro-worship system as well, the concept of worship is built on the basis that man and nature are in harmony, countless terraced fields are an evidence of this belief.

Most travelers pass through Yunnan Province without realizing that Yuanyang exists. No special permit is required to enter. While Yuanyang has no nightlife, it has several positive aspects: almost no tourists, photographically beautiful rice terraces stretching across steep hillsides, and daily ethnic minority markets in nearby towns. The markets are packed with minorities of Hani, Yi, Miao, and Yao tribes. Each has their individual customs and dress.

This picture shows Hani minority women in their tradition costume selling vegetables alongside the primary road. There is a regular market here but not large enough for everyone. Buyers prefer to purchase merchandises along the road rather then cramming inside crowded and dirty market.
