Photographer's Note
Camões is the most famous poet of Portuguese language, he participated of the expeditions of Portuguese in Asia and Africa and wrote Lusíadas, a book where Portuguese navigators were compared with the ancient Greeks, menaced and helped by Greek gods. He lost an eye in a battle and it is told he saved his poems during a shipwreck in the seashore of Vietnam, swimming with only an arm, and the other above sea level. The tradition says he wrote part of his book in Macau, in this place between the rocks. Nowadays the hill is an urban park of Macau, when I visited it the trees were damaged by the last typhoon and many trees were put down.
Here we can see the poet and above him the first verses of Lusíadas, the same I was obligated to memorize when I was a boy:
Variant translation by Landeg White (1997):
Arms are my theme, and those matchless heroes
Who from Portugal's far western shores
By oceans where none had ventured
Voyaged to Taprobana and beyond,
Enduring hazards and assaults
...............

Hello Jorge,
I hope you are not offended but I have done a workshop on your photograph and will explain why.
You have here, a fine triangle of features (the bust, the sign and the plant) but they seem to have lost a little of their importance by so much attention being given to the surrounding rocks.
By cropping the surroundings, the fine textures of the rocks can still be appreciated but the bust takes more of a supreme precedence along with the other features.
Have a lovely w/e,
Bev :-)

Hello Jorge
A remarkable place to place a bust of this Portuguese poet so hidden in a crack between the rocks.
A man far from home to talk about his adventurous seafaring countrymen.
Interesting presentation.
Have a good weekend, groet Rob

hello Jorge,
Interesting monument in the rocks and how proud you must be. How much of this poem had you to memorize in school? How strange that he was the poet and the world explorer. I didn't know it although I have heard about Lusiadas.
Kind regards Malgo

Hola Jorge.
Luis.
