OLD PORTUGUESE MEN IN CHINA, a photo from Macau, South

Photographer's Note

After visit São Paulo Church I climbed the mountain and visited the main fort of the town, up there I visited a modern museum filled with many antiquities and many elements and mockups telling the history of Macau, its peculiar culture, a mix of Portuguese and Chinese heritage. You can know about the Macau's cooking, as was the marriage, architecture, etc..
Here we can see details of a folding screen of the 16th century showing a group of the Portuguese hunting in China. Pay attention in their clothes, faces and the loooong guns. Japanese folding screens showing portuguese were famous and you can find some samples in Lisbon museums, but I never had seen one from China.

Depois de visitar a Igreja de São Paulo, subi a montanha e fui conhecer o maior forte de Macau. Lá em cima há um museu moderno que conta a história e a cultura peculiar da cidade, sua mistura de elementos portugueses e chineses, com inúmeras antiguidades e maquetes mostrando coisas do seu cotidiano, sua cultura e aspectos como culinária, casamento, religião, arquitetura, etc.
Vemos aqui detalhes de um biombo do século 16 que mostra portugueses caçando na China. Reparem nas roupas, nos rostos e nas longas espingardas. Biombos japoneses dessa época mostrando portugueses são bem famosos e vistos em museus de Lisboa, mas eu nunca havia visto um da China.

Hello Jorge,

What an interesting screen, so many details of the Portuguese, their dress, their equipment and their habits, all very sharply captured in your photograph.
I would love a screen like this but I imagine they are quite rare and very expensive.

Jorge, interesting screen seen at a museum in Macau. It depicts Portuguese men hunting birds. They wear hats, period clothes. I see maybe willows. Fine colors, excellent sharpness, instructive photo note, regards.

Portuguese men depicted in a typical Chinese (or east Asian) style of art. The cultural clash is interesting but it's by all means a very good work and a well taken photo with clear details.

very interesting indeed. The nature and decorations are all traditional Chinese and the figures seem from Europe, I suppose they are Portuguese.

Hello Jorge, Charming representation of the Portuguese in Chinese door. Interesting place.
I visited Hongkong, for Macau I had no time enough. For you, the Portuguese traces are more interesting. I liked "real" China and after one day I left Hongkong rather disappointed.
