Photographer's Note

A tribute to Luciano and Silvio. I can guarantee that no butterflies were harmed or injured in the making of these photos! At the entrance to Butterfly Spring Park outside Yangshuo, I spotted this giant butterfly. It's obviously a tourist trap and the reviews I read online were pretty scathing. Continue walking to Moon Hill or back to Yulong River which are far better. It's described as a Monarch butterfly but I always thought they were orange and black? The species is probably 'tackius kitschius commercialus' I have loaded a workshop to give an idea of scale.

"Except for the spring and the grotto, Die Yuan (a garden for viewing butterflies) is also a well-marked sight in Butterfly Spring Park. It is the largest area for viewing the living butterflies in China with millions of butterflies living here and getting along with people harmoniously. Visitors can see the colourful butterflies flying leisurely among the bushes."

Maybe at certain times of the year there are a few real butterflies, but some of the visitor complaints that I read were that they only saw plastic butterflies. Or saw no Spring at all. So if we want to see the real thing, Luciano and Silvio are our best hope. This is one of the rare cases when a butterfly did NOT immediately fly away from me!
