Photographer's Note

Apparently these towers look quite impressive in late summer, when the surrounding rice paddies are a brilliant emerald green, but they looked a little bland in winter. I still liked the perspective here. Zili Village is located close to Kaiping City, which is couple hours by bus south of Guangzhou (Canton).

The towers were built in the 1920's & 1930's by wealthy overseas Chinese returning from work & business in the USA, Canada, Australia, Malaya, South East Asia & other places. They incorporated some of the European styles of architecture. These towers were used in guerrilla warfare against the invading Japanese army between 1938 - 1945.
