Photographer's Note

The Qingyanfang marble boat at the Summer Palace was built in 1755 with a wooden superstructure in the Chinese style. After it was burnt by the Europeans in 1860, it was rebuilt with the paddle wheels in 1893 on the order of the Empress Cixi. Although the base is stone, the top is of wood painted to look like marble. The boat is 36 meters long.
