History of Great Wall

The Great Wall of China, one of the greatest wonders of the world. Just like a gigantic dragon, the Great Wall winds up and down across deserts, grasslands, mountains and plateaus, stretching approximately 6,700 kilometers from east to west of China. It has a history of more than 2000 years. The Great Wall was originally built in the Spring, Autumn, and Warring States Periods as a defensive fortification by the three states: Yan, Zhao and Qin.

The Great Wall went through constant extensions and repairs in later dynasties. It was mostly built during the Ming Dynasty. It has become the "great" under the Qin Dynasty and since then it has served as a monument of the Chinese nation throughout history. The wall was originally built of stone, wood, grass and earth. The bricks were transported by men carrying them on their backs, donkeys, mules and even goats had a brick tied to their head before being driven up a mountain. A great army of manpower, composed of soldiers, prisoners and local people built the wall. Many of them lost their lifes building it. The Great Wall has long been incorporated into Chinese mythology and popular symbolism and it''s a part of Chinese culture and one of the seven wonders of the world.
