Photographer's Note

Working on one of the hundreds of barges taking large loads up and down the massive Chinese river systems, it is a job for the brave-hearted. Many spend most of there life living and working on vessels such as this, with the family having a sort of moving home. Here in the Huang Po River, near Shanghai is a typical example. Even though the water can be quite rough, the barges are loaded to maximise the load each trip. There is virtually no space between the water and the top of the deck. Amazing sight.
