Photographer's Note

View of Shanghai from the west across the Huangpu river with the Pudong area to the east. The Pearl Tower, probably the best known landmark in Shanghai, is in the centre of the image with two of the world's highest buildings to the right.

You may have guessed right. It was taken during the day of the incredible scale model of the city in the building of the City Planning Department. In addition, one can sit down and do a virtual low-fly over the city with images all round on the wall of the circular projection room. Almost as good as a real tour of the city.

On the real Pearl Tower, the small sphere, known as the Space Module, above the big one (a restaurant) and below the mast at the top, is 350 metres above ground level and serves as a gazebo with wonderful all-round views of the city.
