Photographer's Note
I wanted to play around with the cropping in this one. The original rectangular shot was too cluttered. I have cropped tighter and this is the result. I cloned out a 2nd chair arm and headrest on the right. Thought about doing the same to the one at left, but it kind of fills a neutral black space and its circular shape contrasts with the square wooden window panels. Taken in the Geyuan Garden Museum. 'Ge' is Chinese for bamboo. The current garden was rebuilt in 1818 AD from an older Ming Dynasty garden.

Hello Chris,
Cropping is an essential part of photography and one of the important lessons I have learned from my years on TE. Cloning out disturbing details is regarded as completely unacceptable for serious press photographers, who are supposed to show the unadulterated reality, but in this kind of "artistic" photography it's okay. I have done it many times myself. Your treatment of this photo worked well. I like the patterns of the windows and the contrasts of light and dark details.
Regards,
Gert

Hello Chris
For some reason I knew this was your offering. I have all my markers turned off. Nice to guess the Photographer before I entertain a gander. I do like the image for the reason you stated. The chair on the left does fill the image nicely. Good to see some more almost abstract images here on TE.

Bonjour Chris,
La composition est originale. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails des fenêtres et du reflet. La lumière environnante fait ressortir les couleurs. Bonne journée.

Hello Chris,
Cropping is a very worthwhile technique and with the flexibility of PS or Lightroom, you can always return to the original if you are unhappy with the result. By cropping, you can add attention to something which was merely a b/g feature!
You have created a striking pattern, here, with the lantern featuring in one square. It feels like a contemporary design from something older.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Chris
It was wise leaving that chair filling in the dark spot.
A good composition with the well placed lantern.
