Mirror Lake, a photo from Sichuan, Central

Photographer's Note

Mirror Lake is a quiet lake casting beautiful reflections of the surroundings when the water is calm. It is located in the Rize Valley which is the 18km long south-western branch of Jiuzhaigou. The lake at an altitude of 2,410 m is in a sheltered section of the valley running east west which produces its
glassy reflective surface.The Lake was featured in the Zhang Yimou movie Hero. The outflow of “Mirror Lake” is through the “Rize Gully” a travertine ramp of small ponds and natural bonsai trees and bushes that lead directly to one of
the great sights of Jiuzhaigou Valley.
The picture has been taken late in the afternoon when the light was slightly less harsh than during all day and made the hills in the background look warmer. I went down to have better POV and to try to catch the trees on the bottom of the lake.

Hello Kamila,

Long ago, this is the sort of picture that people used to have on their wall as a mural. The reason is obvious. It is stunningly beautiful and has a mood of tranquillity.
You have used a fine composition; f/g details for depth, excellent use of the reflections in the water and a b/g of three, wonderfully contrasting mountains.

Another fabulous shot from one of the many fascinating natural sceneries of China. While the view across the lake is wonderful, it's of course the lake that offers the most spectacular views. You have captured an intricate mix of reflections and vegetation under and above the surface. As always this is an immaculately exposed photo with superb colours.

That is so incredibly calm, wow. This makes a magnificent scene as a reflection, but the fact that we can see right through the surface to the trees at the bottom makes this seem almost magical, looking through is like looking into another world. It is unexpected to see these long trees lying here like this. The clump of plant life on the right foreground is really ncely considered to break the underwater and above water worlds nicely. Very nicely done.

davanti ad un simile soggetto e a simili colori si rimane incantati.
Un paesaggio di una bellezza straordinaria che hai fotografato in maniera perfetta e soprattutto facendo in maniera che apparisse ben nitida anche la parte sotto la superficie dell'acqua che offre uno spettacolo altrettanto bello di quella esterna.

Hello Kamila,

The colors on the clear water are beautiful. The composition is good too, playing with the V shape of the valley and its reflection.
However, I think a greater depth of field would have been better because the mountains in the background are a little bit blurred.

Hmmm, wonder why this was named Mirror Lake?? :) A beautiful natural setting this is, and you've captured the simple majesty of visual. A reflection is pretty much always an attractive element, but this one posses something a bit different and unique with the bands and smooth transition of colors. I like the idea to utilize the foreground piece of land as an "anchor" point. An air of serenity with a hint of excitement to what lies beyond the borders of the lake. This is really fantastic, better than I imagine it to be even better than in the fall with all the colors. the like is so peaceful it really become like a mirror and the weather is perfect, as I hear it is raining often here in the summer. I guess in November it is clear but no snow yet.

Excellent details everywhere and a really good composition. I wish to return here one day.
