Photographer's Note

The city of Xi'an in Shaanxi province is best known for the Terracotta Army unearthed nearby. However, the city itself also has much to offer with the intriguing mosque, the well preserved city walls, Drum and Bell towers etc.

This photo of the city walls was taken during the evening "blue hour" - the short period of time during the day when it's neither fully dark, nor bright. All the city lights were already on, while the sky still retained the last remnants of light. Hence, the colors.

Not having a tripod made me look for something solid to rest the camera on. Finally I framed this photo from on of the crenellations (using a lens cap placed under the lens to control pitch). So, it's almost as if the wall made a self-portrait. ;-)
