Photographer's Note

I say you'll probably never visit, because after all, why would you? there is nothing here! ;) Baoji City has been my home for the last 6 months, and I'll be leaving soon, hence I thought I would finally upload a photo of it. As a secondary motivation, I believe it will be the first photo posted on TE of this city.

The City: Baoji is the name of the city with a population estimated to be around 800,000, although Baoji is also the name of the county within Shaanxi province with a population of around 3,000,000. It's the second largest city in the province, although there are very few tourist sites around compared to nearby Xi'an. Famensi Temple is nearby, and Taibai Mountain in the Qinling Mountain range is about 100km south, but that's all. It's an industrial city specialising in the manufacturer of titanium products, and also high voltage electrical equipment - most of which is exported to Europe from what I'm told.

The photo: The perpetual haze/ smog which engulfs Baoji (the most wind-less city I've ever visited) has made it incredibly difficult to capture a shot of the whole city which does not look like it's been taken in grey scale with the contrast reduced by 95%!

Having seen a few HDR images here on TE, I decided this may well be a method to pull out some shadow/ highlight detail, and so this is my first attempt at HDR. This shot is 5 images bracket between -1.2/3EV and +1EV.

It's not the most exiting shot, but nobody else is going to show you Baoji, so I thought I would! Let me know what you think, and thanks for looking :)
