cool blues, a photo from Ningxia, Central

Photographer's Note

Just a man on the streets of Tongxin, a small town in Ningxia, a small province in China. I thought he looked really cool in his blue outfit, straw hat and big glasses, as is the fashion in his part of the world.

Tongxin in southern Ningxia has a strong muslim feel to it and is sometimes (rarely) visited by tourists because it has one of the oldest mosques of the region. The mosque itself is OK, but I thought the streetlife was a lot more interesting to us. Just a normal, out of the way kind of place where nothing much happens, except life itself.

J'aime beaucoup ce portrait. Le cadrage est excellent et s'attarde sur le sujet tout en ne laissant pas voir beaucoup autour de lui.J'aime bien ces lunettes de motocycliste sous le chapeau de paille.

Hello Benny,
I like this spontaneous portrait very much because it seems to be part of a story. Judging from the other men in the frame, his look must be rare and eye-catching, he fills the frame and yet is trying to look as discreet as possible. I like the light and the colours, it's intersting that the light shines all over the frame except on his face. I also like the repetition of round shapes. Congratulations and thank you! He is certainly a man of his area!
The hat and the glasses set him apart.
WE would think he was off a film set if we encountered him locally in the U.K.
I do like how you have captured him so closely and he appears unaware of your camera. Your use of shallow dof has captured him sharply against a slightly blurred but useful b/g. The shot sets us wondering about a scenario ... a great outcome from a photograph!

Hi Benny,
A great character your lens has found. I always like to see the traditional and typical way of dressing of different regions. The hat glasses and his beard combine to form a great subject for your portrait. Even though the light seems quite strong you still have many details visible on his face in the shadow of his hat which is great.
