Photographer's Note

A high school student appears to be daydreaming during his Khmer class in Kampong Cham, Cambodia.

Well, we can't pay attention all the time and this high school student seemed to be having difficulty following along with his Khmher language/grammar instructor.

Maybe it's because he was in his early twenties, the age most monks leave high school in Cambodia, due to their extended curriculum involving the teachings of Buddha.

This particular classroom was locatewd at Wat Bankok, and some of monks come to attend from other temples in the city.

At Wat Bankok, one can see holes in a former education building now used for living quarters by the monks that remain from the days of Pol Pot.

The holes were left by bullets, rockets, and grenades, as Pol Pot carried out his plan to eliminate religion in Cambodia and forced all the people, including monks,to march to the fields to form his "great agrarian society".

Some monks refused, and were killed at this site.
