Photographer's Note
‘Kampot - Another example of more ambience than sights’
My third and last photo of Kampot.
This is the kind of boats with tourists that sail on the Preaek Tuek Chhu River in the evening in the centre of town. Probably a strange sight for those who were in Kampot years ago.
In my previous note I already wrote this town wasn't exactly my cup of tea.
Far too many tourists hanging out just about everywhere and without many sights around.
Just my own personal opinion.
Most westerners seemed to like it there.
---------
During my (only) long-term journey in my life I took heaps of photos that I suspected I could only show a limited number of on this site because I would probably make another trip in a next year.
When I came back home we were in the midst of the corona pandemic and travel (and a lot of other things) were restricted.
Since travelling seemed impossible for a long time, I decided to show as many photos of my Asian journey as possible.
In the meantime I have been home for 15 months and I realise that I’m only half way through the number of pictures I would like to show for a representative overview of the trip :)
I don't know if I will succeed completely.
Somewhere there’s a fatigue or at least a feeling that I’m too long on the same subject.
I think this is because I really miss a new trip.
The desire to travel is evident. However, although the infection rates are improving in large parts of Europe, they’re still far from ideal. I can't imagine taking a 'classic journey of me’ without having a wrong contact.
Even if you have had both doses of the vaccine, you remain susceptible to infection. Few still get seriously ill, but you can still infect others and I think it remains our responsibility to prevent the latter.
So for now on this site I will stay in Asia for a bit longer.

Hello Paul,
I guess I know where you took this photo. I didn't see any brightly shining boat like this, but the sky and reflections in the water remind me of a photo I posted here several years ago. I might call a boat illuminated like this "kitschy", but it certainly brightens a photo.
Best regards,
Gert

Bonjour Paul,
J'apprécie les reflets de lumière sur l'eau. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails du bateau illuminé et des montagnes en arrière-plan. Le coucher de soleil donne de belles couleurs au ciel. Bonne journée.

Hello Paul,
It is hard to deal with the lack of travel when you are a born explorer but I think you are taking a very sensible attitude that others could be put at risk if we are not careful!
You were not part of the unusual boat trip but, it still makes a very colourful scene for your photographic record.
I like the colours, reflected on the surface of the water, from that beautiful sky, with silhouetted hills as a backcloth. The psychedelic boat does make a very strong focal point, contrasting strongly with the natural colours around it!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Paul,
Good use of a high enough shutter speed to freeze movement of the boat, something I sometimes forget, and end up with a streaky blur. Good sharpness and nice reflections. Superb cloud patterns in the sky. Tfs!

Hello Paul,
Show everithing you have in stock of photos. You are a real traveler...
fabulous pink illumination of the tourists boat, contrast the golden sky reflection over water and dark part on the right side of the image.
A marvelous outcome.
Good evening,

Hallo Paul,

Hi Paul
Every country has their purely tourist areas full of resorts etc. But this photo does have good atmosphere in the evening light.
cheers

Hi Paul,
wow, this boat is slightly too much for my taste. You made a great use of it but I am surprised somebody lit a boat so intensely.
The sky after sunset has a lovely pattern and colors and the boat adds a Las Vegas type of decoration.
Very well done.
I finally managed to catch up with your recent photos :)

Hi Paul,
That boat surely catches attention, and not in very positive way. This place has such a beautiful nature, and that boat would better fit on a canal of some big city, Dubai maybe. Beautiful moment after sunset.

Hello Paul, an eye-catcher if ever I saw one!
I think that you would have had a winner here without the brightly illuminated boat, as the reflections from the sunset look as if they could have been quite special.
Interesting notes.
Kind regards, Jean.

hello Paul I agree that this boat looks a bit kitschy but it is eyecatching. But it can't beat the marvellous sky. Nice dark blue silhouettes of the hills. Wonderful composition.
Interesting note. I could write something similar. I haven't made such a long journey, it is for me rather impossible because of my family, but I also miss the travels. I was almost sure that I would be closer to 1OO visited countries but Covid came. At least I was in Ireland and Africa during these months. I also have many photos but I have no idea what to show. But I am not bored - I am busy working (earning money for future trips, hahaha), and in high season I always stay home, so I do not complain.
Best regards MAlgo

Olá Paul,
interessante registro aqui, com destaque a esse céu. Curiosa a iluminação do barco também. Belo registro.

Hi Paul,
A good atmospheric photo. The brightly coloured boat is the stand-out feature, but the colour and texture of the sky is also very good. The reflections on the water are great. The portrait format helps show the clouds receding into the distance from directly above us.

Hi Paul
I bet we all have so many more photos we could post, and with TE becoming less and less popular we won't be able to get to all of them - even Malgo has basically left the site now. wonderful shot of these clouds, who cares about the boat haha.
perfect shot for the vertical format. cheers

Hello Paul,
The colors here are great. The sky is almost as intense as the purple lights on that boat. I like the cloud patterns and reflections on the water, too. It's nice that you took enough photos in Asia to fill the COVID travel void. :-) Take care!

Bonjour Paul
La nature a su bien doser les éclats du coucher de soleil pour laisser la vedette à cette 'star' au costume rosé lors du dernier 'encore' avant la tombée finale du rideau!
Spectacle somptueux!

Hello Paul,
This photo has a certain - unbelievable/unrealistic - atmosphere with the boat in the fg. Anyhow, I'm buying it.
Best Wishes,

The horror, the horror...and Kampot was so lovely and quiet when we visited it just a few years before.
Good picture, but do I not like those things!

Hi Paul,so no new short-term trips, maybe you could have a nice stay in Italy, sea and good food await you and our nation is having a really good time regarding Covid, very few cases and almost absolute freedom. I have already obtained the European green pass, but I have already booked another holiday in Umbria in August .. ahaha ... congratulations for this evening photo full of atmosphere, your archive is very rich. Have a nice Sunday and thanks,Luciano

These boats may be just a tasteless tourist attraction but it's hard not to fall in love with this photo where the boat adds this lovely splash of colour and the reflection is also very nice. Great choice of portrait format to make the most of the lovely clouds and colours in the sky.
I must admit, and that surprised many people that know me, including myself - I almost enjoyed the first four months of the lockdown, being confined to my garden and local park (lucky I live where I live), but the trouble was I needed to see my very ill father (who passed away in September for nothing to do with Covid). For the last 12 months I've flown, on average, once a month, mainly to Poland. I was terribly scared on my first "pandemic" flight but I got used to the feeling to the point that I became quite blaze about it (which Gert can confirm). I think flights are safer than anything else you do, once you arrive at your destination. And going to Asia... that is a totally different thing as well. As I said, I wish I could donate my vaccine to those people there.
Have a nice week
Kasia

Hello Paul,
Ha!3x.....you 'Save the Best for Last'.
It's definitely more ambience in sight ( than sights ).
A beautiful warm orange glow in the sky and a splash of bright pink , illuminating on the water surface.....making the whole scene very ambience, kind of romantic :-)
Seeing the pictures, I get what you meant about this place. I gather its lost the old charm and authenticity , maybe its still has. But far too many tourists, as you said...is a big NO to me too.
Yeah, about traveling again....I've doubts. I would love to go back Asia but these 'covid variants' still spreading around the whole world. You're right, we should be sensible.
Thanks for the Tip and photos of Kampot.
Loong
P/s: No..it's not the place with high dunes. I think you're referring the dunes in Mui Ne, Phan Thiet.
It's just white sand or white beach ( the beaches are very 'wide' and 'long' in Vietnam).

the illuminated boat remind me the ones in china. here it looks like an UFO in the river. excellent visual effect. sometimes we like more a place than another and sometimes we aren't nice in terms of mind to enjoy a place and we can like the one we didn't like before.
take care

Hello Paul,
The natural light and its reflections are beautiful. The magenta light from the boat is something else, though it put a smile on my face.
Regards,
MT
