Photographer's Note

As we walked up the hill to see the mountain temple called Phnom Krom south of Siem Reap, 1 minute before I shot this photo of Men At Work, there was this one monk at the side taking a sip of tea [not beer, I hope!] from the cold freezer. Perhaps the white man standing was the provider of the drinks? No, I did not speak to any of them although I smiled all the way, and this monk smiled back at me and the camera.

A working monk, yes, building a road up the hill. If I had a chance, I had many questions to ask him, like

.how did he know to build a road?
.where did he learn from?
.he would not get paid? free food, drinks?
.would he go international as NGO?
.could he get married and have children?

But obviously I need not ask him if I can publish his photo, the answer is on his smiling face. I have seen monks praying, walking, begging but never building a road on a mountain slope under the hot sun! On your way to Tonle Sap Lake, the Phnom Krom mountain is on your right. Three old Angkor temples sit atop the mountain and we were here to check out sunset scenery.

:-) On a lighter note : I posted this demure girl selling drinks at the foothill leading up the road to this monk's scene at the same place at the same time, and hope that he would not be distracted in his concentration! Physically located perhaps on the same website server disc storage! but different URL so he couldn't trace it? What do you think?
