I am working through the temples in the Angkor region in alphabetical order which means a few "b"s partly because the names of several temples start with the word Banteay which means citadel so today's temple is the Hindu Banteay Samre - Citadel of the Samre. The Samre were an old people of Indo-China.
Banteay Samre is relatively small but a delight to visit as it is off up a side road and I don't think tours visit it. We had the place almost to ourselves.
It is built in the Angkor Wat style with that tower in the centre being a scaled down version of those at Angkor Wat.
For more photos look back in the Banteay Samre folder to see my previous postings in 2011.
