Photographer's Note

There are literally thousands of statues of Buddha within the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh. The most famous is probably the "Emerald Buddha" which has its own temple (photos not permitted inside the temple). Then there's the 90kg golden Buddha encrusted with over 2,000 diamonds. At the lower end of the scale are the small wood and stone carvings such as those in my photo which, although simpler and more humble in appearance - to me they evoke far more emotions of peacefulness, serenity and tranquility than their big, glittery cousins surrounded by guards, barriers and hordes of pointing admirers!

These carvings of Buddha are located in a small open-sided building in the north-western corner of the palace grounds.

Image cropped a little on either side to improve the composition and frame added in Photoshop, otherwise unchanged.
