Photographer's Note

Taken from my photo walk about at Chongkos stilted village populated by ethnic Krom Khmer fishing community on the bank of Tonle Sap river north west of Kampong Chhnang. Her 'home sweet home' invites the imagination as to what the interior could possibly look like amidst the junk, pollution and decay, surviving a meagre living. But I want to emphasize how deceiving looks can be; at no time did I ever feel unsafe and at no time did I ever feel unwelcome here. People here may be poor, but they’re far from sheltered that I saw lots like this here and the thing that struck me the most was not only poverty that these people endured but the fact that they were always seem cheerful.

A split second shot as not to interrupt her privacy on which I guessed she must have spent quite a while there sitting on the doorstep of her small ramshackle wooden house. There is something very moving in her expression showing all the signs of a long and hard working life, but still got a twinkle in her eye....

I can't begin to imagine being forced to live like this. Travel photography is not just about pretty pictures and images......
