Photographer's Note
He is Forok Ahmed. He worked as a cutter in ship breaking yard. He lost his right hand in an accident in 1998. His right hand was trapped in between two large plates while he was cutting a plate. “When some 40/50 workers came and pulled up the upper plate using metal lever, I saw my wrist, palm and all the fingers were crushed and I came to know the cruel truth that I am going to lose my right hand”, he said. I asked him that whether his feels that he is lucky enough to be a survivor. “I don’t know…I didn’t study much…I need to work physically to earn…I can’t work or earn now…I am dependant on my brother who is a foreman in a ship breaking yard…I don’t know whether I am lucky or not…if I would die then, would I have that ability to feel lucky or unlucky?”, he replied. I remained silent seeing nothing in his eyes.
