Photographer's Note
‘Yerevan bookmark’
A few years ago a fellow countryman of mine, Roger GODET (rodgerg) posted very regularly pictures on TE. He was also specialized in bookmarks.
Too bad we get no new pictures of him.
Here I've also tried out one.
The picture is taken inside the Blue Mosque of Yerevan. The interior of the Blue Mosque looks quite red, don’t you think so ? :) Just because I was fixed on the carpet of course.
In my gallery you will find only a few pictures of the daily life, a category in which I haven’t yet undertaken much and I’m not really sure if this picture can qualify for this.
Frankly, I do not see in which category it might fit.
From the Lonely Planet guide:
The mosque was built in 1765 by the Persian Governor Hussein Ali Khan as a place for Friday sermons and features a medrese (religious college) built around a garden courtyard, a 24 m high minaret and a brightly tiled turquoise dome.
During the Soviet era it didn’t function as a mosque but it was a museum. After the independence of Armenia and with the support from the Iranian government, the Blue Mosque became again an Islamic prayer house.

Hello Paul,
I must say I just love this format of the picture. It makes its graphical impact really strong and eye-catching!
Red carpet and two happy boys-sounds like a common juxtaposition, but your execution really makes it one of a kind!
Have a nice day

Hello Paul,
This is eye-catching!
A bookmark with a difference!
You have treated us to this fine carpet - so red in the blue mosque, and, also, a couple who are enjoying seeing you and your hobby!
You have presented it very well, too!
Have a great day,
Bev :-)
I used to like Roger's work. He is missed!

Hello Paul,
You're capturing well this one scene of Mosque by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see an awaking red caepet in which embroidery was given well and two sitting guys in back. It is glad that the good tradition as a mosque returned.
Kind regards,

Dag Paul,
Goed foto werk, bedankt.
Groeten uit Oost-Vlaanderen,
John.

Hi Paul,
The vertical format really emphasizes the strong colours here. The persons at the top of the view are very good for adding a sense of scale and also life.

Blue mosque on the outside and top, Paul, with a stunning red carpet indoor's.
Fine vertical slim cropped image, with the youngsters sitting and smile at you on the right moment.
Well done technical details, I rather see a wider scope, but this would be my private preferences.
Good evening,

Hello Paul,
One obvious advantage of these bookmark photos is that they become so very obvious among the other thumbnails that nobody could overlook them. It's even better if they are almost 20 % red. I like this photo not just for the red vertical but for the combination of a human touch and a work of textile art. The tight cropping has given the pattern of the carpet a zigzag rhythm that may not have been so easily visible if you had shown a mucher large part of it.
Kind regards,
Gert

Ciao Paul
Ciao e buona notte

Hi Paul,
very successful attempt at the bookmark format. Hope it is not the last one :-) The red carpet with bright pattern on it makes superb subject for the majority of the picture. Two people placed at the top of the composition finish it off in very nice and elegant style. There is a fine contrast between these two parts which is very eye catching.
All the best

Hello Paul, despite,or perhaps because of the low lighting conditions you have taken full advantage of the bright red carpet and it`s design to compose a most striking bookmark, the two seated boys add a great deal of charm to a very well conceived photograph.
Kind regards Les.

Hi Paul,
A nice elongated vertical bookmark indeed! Love the warm cold color contrasts between the red and blue and the repetitive patterns of the mosques woven into the carpet culminating in the duo at the back. Good sharpness and excellent informative notes. The yellow green wall at the back balances the colour scheme. Tfs!

Hi Paul,
The Blue mosque in red...what's going on here, do my eyes deceive me?? :) First off, I think the bookmark format works especially well in this instance...the repeating pattern and bold color is enhanced by the slim format. It also aids in the depth, making a natural perception of such. Aside from the technical details, it the smiles of these two young men that steal the show, what a wonderful capture of expression that results in the same reaction from my side...a big smile! A solid concept and execution, well done indeed. Enjoy the new day. All the best.
Friendly wishes,
Jason

Like everyone else I am attracted to your long vertical view of the bright red artistic carpet with the happy boys on top. Perhaps the only thing to make for an excellent bookmark is to laminate this?
Thanks for sharing,

Hello Paul,
you had a great idea for a bookmark composition, it's original and most attractive. I like very much how you combined the considerable height of the frame with an effective sense of depth, enhanced by the perspective of the repeating patterns. It's fun to find the two smiling guys at the end of the perspective, you enabled them to stand out in this strikingly colourful and graphical area. Lovely work, congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great weekend,

Salut cher Paul
I am not usually a fan of the Bookmark, but here I must say, you have chosen it to superb effect. I love how you have given so much frame space to the carpet, which by itself is beautiful. The addition of the 2 boys, obviously waiting for Prayers, is a masterstroke. The image is well exposed and composed. There's a slight loss of sharpness of the boys, but in low light conditions and considering your aperture of f/3.1, this was to be expected.
Warmest wishes, nice work

Indeed a good idea for a bookmark style of shot. Red is often associated with or symbolizing danger, so in that respect a juxtaposition occurs when we se the smiling faces of the boys. Wonderful daily life scene. Lovely work:) Thanks.

Bonjour Paul,
