Photographer's Note

Le vieux guide avait encore l'oeil vif et les idées en place.
Il trainait parmi les tombes à la recherche des visiteurs. Il était la mémoire du cimetière.
Il connaissait l'histoire de chaque pierre.
Il pouvait déchiffrer avec délectation chaque épitaphe, chaque morceau de mémoire.

Mais le vieux guide n'en pouvait plus. Il portait les ravages du temps. Il ne tenait plus debout.
Il tombait face contre terre.
Le sang sur le visage, il tentait de faire bonne figure.

The old guide had still keen eye and ideas in place.
He hung out among the graves in search of visitors. He was the memory of the cemetery.
He knew the history of each stone.
He could read with delight every epitaph, each piece of memory.

But the old guide was exhausted.
He bore the ravages of time.
He was no longer standing.
He fell face against the ground.
The blood on his face, he tried to do well.

A nice portrait, Bertrand, with a lot of detail brought out through good B/W tones. For an old-world man, the insignia above the word Kappa is a bit incongruous, which adds interest--it looks like two women sitting back to back. Regards, Ken.

Hi Bertrand,
In thumbnail the portrait is very attractive. Though in full size I regret the focus made on the hat (though it adds a lot to the overall composition) instead of the man's face. It spoils the inner "drama" of the portrait IMHO. B&Wis obviously a good choice, and composition well done.
PS: why dind't you put any note? I made the same comment to a member yesterday...did TE principles evolved lately? if so, I'm sorry ;)

Une belle "gueule" pour ce portrait N&B, avec une histoire que tu ne nous racontes pas. Ses yeux sont pleins de tristesse et sa bouche semble prête à mordre.

The soft focus on the lower jaw & face doesn't bother me. The text is more important here. A superb b&w / n&b portrait, with excellent lighting contrasts, framing, & tonal range. Good to see youve added a note. Merci et bon weekend!

This is a wonderful portrait. His face, his expressivity, his eyes,... it looks very nice.

I don't mind the lack of sharpness of the photo... but I would prefer more contrast forthe photo.

bel hommage a cet homme meurtri que ce portrait en n&b bien realisé,la ligne montante des epaules fait une bonne diagonale aidant la lecture de la photo.

un portrait d'un arménien c'est pas souvent qu'on en voit, le N&B donne un grand coté rétro, fais tu la pub de cette grande marque, et je vois que l'inspiration revient avec cette belle note

Bonjour, Bertrand. Le sang qui macule son visage rend le portrait impressionnant. Ses traits sont marqués par le temps, mais il a encore l'oeil vif. Un N&B qui convient bien ici, comme le cadrage serré.

Il ne s'est pas loupé le monsieur, et le bonnet enfoncé jusqu'aux oreilles semble, peut-être, cacher une blessure plus profonde... Belle photo de cet homme qui avait une bonne posture pour faire un joli portrait. Le noir et blanc convient très bien avec ton texte.
