Photographer's Note

Aleem Khan, Nasrat, and a neighbor (in the back). The two in the front are brother and sister. They are orphans, along with two younger sisters and an older brother. Aleem Khan is deaf, as well as his little sister (not shown here). This is the most "down" I ever saw him, the day he showed me how badly his foot was infected. Nasrat is few years older, 12. She is very small. I miss walking through their village and slapping Aleem "5" each time I saw him. He had the greatest smile! I miss speaking "small talk" with Nasrat (with what little Dari I had), while she would run alongside to keep up. I miss their village, the people, the beauty of the place. The kindness I was shown there was unlike any other. Iíll never forget Afghanistan, it took a hold of me. And even after I've left, it doesnít let go easy.
