Photographer's Note

This morning we landed on D'Hainaut Island located in Mikkelsen Harbour. Our Zodiac landed on the north east beach adjacent to whalebones and the remains of an old wood water boat. We were told that the boat was used to bring freshwater from land to the whaling ships anchored in the harbour prior to 1912. The highlight of D'Hainaut Island for me was doing the Polar Plunge! At last night's daily recap and briefing we were told today was the day for the Polar Plunge. I didn't sleep well because I was worrying about it the entire night. Was I crazy for wanting to jump into the frigid water in Antarctica? I had a blast and now I regret that I didn't fully immerse myself like others that followed. It really wasn't that bad although when I left the water my ankles had a shooting pain. I had seen videos posted online from other travelers to Antarctica where they would jump off the back of their ships and fully immerse themselves. Here we just walked into the water and we had to sit down to get our waist wet for it to count. Next time I will fully plunge in without a shirt on!rnrnWe saw the following wildlife: Gentoo Penguins, Kelp Gull and Weddell Seals.
