Photographer's Note

The remains of columns of the Meroitic temple complex in Musawwarat es-Sufra. Part of so called Great Enclosure erected in the 3rd century BC.
One of the finest places of the Ancient World. Basil Davidson called it 'Athens in Africa'.

The ruins are located in a desert 20 km off the main tarmac Shendi - Khartoum road (190 km north of Khartoum).
That last leg is very sandy but still accesible for a bike.
