Photographer's Note

Often referred as a desert, the Great Karoo is in fact a conglomerate of mountain, savannah, grassland and desert, covering more than 400,000 square kilometers.

Rugged and magnificent at the same time, the sun-scorched landscape offers many faces, with a urprisingly varied biosphere of pristine beauty and extreme contrast, endless horizons, stark mountains traversed by dramatic passes, strong mix of cultures and numerous quaint villages.

It is also famous for its sheep farming, which represents the backbone of its economy.
