Photographer's Note

Greater flamingo (Phoenicopterus ruber) 127cm:
Characteristic long legs and long neck. Shows brilliant red patches in the forewings during flight. It has a pink bill with a black tip. Its habitat is freshwater lakes, salt pans, estuaries and open coast. It is common to Southern Africa, but nomadic. Sometimes occurs in huge concentrations.

This is the last of my bird postings for now. I like the pose of the flamingo in this one, as well as the soft colors. The flamingoes didn't come close to the hides at all, and mainly stayed in the open water. Therefore I also had to use maximum focal length for this one, and also had to crop quite a bit.

According to my Bird Book its call sounds like a 'honk honk', not unlike a farmyard goose......
