Photographer's Note
Man ...I can't believe I took this shot only 4 years ago ...it seems like decades since I was in Africa ...I've done a lot of traveling since than, but West Africa will always be something of a "special" travel destination for me. Thailand, Vietnem, Nepal, India, I'll be back to again and again. West Africa, and particularly Nigeria, I'm not sure I'll see it again. I did it. I lived. I saw and experienced it. It is an otherworldly eye-opening insanity at points. I hope to see it again though ...this shot, just wandering around at sunrise in the woods of Northern Nigeria ...it's like a distant dream for me now, but one with vivid and cherished memories.
...and going through some of my older shots, I gotta fix some - this one in particular where the post processing probably actually made the photo worse.

Hi, John,
I agree with Fred. It reminds me Japanese style and bonsai tree too. Good minimalist composition! TFS! Two points! )))

John
Plus des airs d'estampe japonaise que de savane africaine mais cela n'empêche pas d'admirer cette très bonne photo.
Amicalement

Hi John
It's a kind of Japanese etching with the bonzaï tree against the white sky.
I appreciate so much.
Cheers

Hello John
I echo Claude's (CLODO) comment: I was immediately struck by this image's Japanese quality. Minimalism and beautiful light. Well done!

Tree of Nigeria, ? ... but it looks very oriental. Simple, nice composition, very graphic.
Pozdrawiam,

Hello John,
I don't recognize this kind of tree, I mainly remember the impressive baobabs that covered the countryside in Mali and elsewhere. The silhouette that this creates is quite stunning and you managed a fine background.
I will probaby never see West Africa again but I am really happy to have been there a number of times. I wouldn't have liked to be without it.
Regards,
Gert
