Photographer's Note

The Spitzkoppe is a group of bald granite peaks located between Usakos and Swakopmund in the Namib Desert . The granite is more than 700 million years old and the highest outcrop rises about 1784 meters above sea level.

Known for its golden, picturesque afternoons and challenging climbing opportunities, Spitzkoppe is spectacular for its wildness, rounded geological formations and beauty. There is no single best location; there are many beautiful rock formations, some resembling animals and other objects. At sunrise and at sunset, the character of the rocks changes dramatically, and at certain times changes to a deep orange.

The Rock Arch is a popular formation to climb. Picture taken in the evening just before sunset.
