Photographer's Note

At Benhaddou - seen by sundown - is a 'fortified city' along the former caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech in present-day Morocco.

The building material of the entire structure is adobe,a natural building material mixed from sand, clay, sticks and straw, dung or other fibrous materials, which is shaped into bricks using frames and dried in the sun.

It is situated on a hill along the Ouarzazate River and has some beautiful examples of kasbahs, places for the local leader to live and as a defense when the city was under attack.
A kasbah has high walls which usually have no windows .

At Benhaddou is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987 and several films have been shot there:
Lawrence of Arabia, The Jewel of the Nile, The Last Temptation of Christ and Gladiator
