Photographer's Note

I remain in Mopti, Mali, in February 1982. Mopti was one of the most interesting and photogenic towns I visited during a journey of four months through West Africa.

This is one of the busy beaches along the banks of the Bani river, teeming with human activities all day long. I will post two more photos from this area as workshops. Unfortunately none of them can convey the distinct aroma of dried fish lingering over this part of the city.

A short distance further north the Bani enters the mighty Niger, one of the four major rivers of Africa.

All photos were scanned from Kodachrome slides.
